What the stages mean
Top of funnel (TOFU) introduces a useful idea or problem to people who may become customers. Middle of funnel (MOFU) helps an interested person compare approaches and understand fit. Bottom of funnel (BOFU) helps someone evaluate the offer and take a buying step. People do not always move through these stages in a neat order.
Match the content to the question
A practical explainer, useful social post, search answer, or workshop may create initial awareness. A guide, comparison, demonstration, or case study can help evaluation. A clear service page, pricing explanation, proposal, or consultation can support the purchase decision. The format alone does not determine the stage; the customer question does.
Why top of funnel matters
It creates opportunities for qualified people to discover you before they know your product name. But impressions alone do not establish demand. Build a relevant next step: a useful guide, a deeper example, or an offer that follows naturally from the content.
Measure the connection
Report reach or impressions alongside engaged visits, useful actions, qualified inquiries, and later opportunities. Define a qualified lead with sales or the person doing the selling. Avoid counting a download as a sales-ready opportunity. Tag campaign links consistently and document attribution limits.
A simple example
A marketing consultant publishes a guide to onboarding mistakes. Readers can download a customer journey checklist. A reader who identifies a problem can explore the lifecycle service. The sequence matches the problem; it does not need to force every visitor into the same sales pitch.
